SUSTAINABLE QUALITY
Valle dell’Acate production is entirely organic and the company is involved in environment safeguard. That means a dynamic company that constantly tests and realizes production paths on the basis of sustainability principles investing the entire production chain. This special concern is not new. It is based on respect for biodiversity, the biggest asset of Biddini Soprana and Biddini Sottana estate being the vitality of many and complex ecosystems that are part of the biosphere.
Valle dell’Acate is part of this balance and it implements tangible and rigorous measures, such as:
- irrigation systems that maximize water efficiency and avoid its waste;
- soil upgrade through restoration of ancient production sites, that respects the characteristic of the area and highlight its history and natural beauty;
- development of “Seven soils for seven wines” project as a path to enhance the peculiarities and the typical characteristics of the territory. The project select a specific soil for each wine produced and therefore strongly characterize the vineyard, resulting in the unique and inimitable expression of each wine;
- company certification through the “VIVA sustainable wine” protocol, a pivotal national pilot project, started in 2011 by the Environmental Ministry, General Direction for Sustainable Development, Energy and Climate, with the participation of Italian companies relevant to the sector. The project aim to measure the sustainability performance of the grapes-wine production chain, in the first place evaluating the water and carbon footprint;
- recent actuation of the “Comunità Energetica del Vigneto Italia” (Italian Vineyard Energetic Community) project, with the collaboration of the Banca Agricola Popolare of Ragusa: the project involves the implementation of a platform to manage a 200 kw plant linked to adjacent companies. The aim is to call farming and winemaking companies in the Acate region share the energy supply by obtaining public incentives over a twenty-year period of time that will be redistributed to the enrolled companies and will bring economic and environmental advantages in the territory.
Il protocollo VIVA sustainable wine muove dalla consapevolezza che una buona parte delle aziende viticole italiane ha già adottato in vigneto criteri e tecniche di produzione sostenibili, mentre il settore vitivinicolo ha avviato iniziative concrete per migliorare la performance ambientale delle cantine e dei sistemi di commercializzazione.VIVA intende valorizzare le pratiche già sperimentate ed individuare le azioni per consolidare la qualità ambientale della filiera usando le conoscenze messe a disposizione dalla tradizione locale e nazionale unitamente alle innovazioni scientifiche e tecnologiche.
Con questo progetto, il Ministero dell’Ambiente sostiene l’ingresso del settore vitivinicolo italiano (colonna portante della produzione e dell’esportazione agroalimentare italiana) nel contesto globale delle grandi imprese internazionali che hanno puntato sulla certificazione ambientale del ciclo di vita dei propri prodotti, come scelta volontaria e strategica nell’ambito della Corporate Social Responsibility.
Il progetto VIVA, di durata triennale, creerà le condizioni necessarie per dare valore al vino italiano come “prodotto bandiera” dello sviluppo sostenibile in Italia e nel mondo.
Premio ecofriendly
Per il suo costante impegno nella salvaguardia dell’ambiente e le misure adottate lungo la filiera, Valle dell’Acate ha ricevuto il Premio Eco-friendly 2014 dalla Guida Vini Buoni d’Italia in collaborazione con Verallia.
Questo riconoscimento è assegnato alle cantine, particolarmente virtuose, che si distinguono nell’adozione di tecniche di lavorazione ecosostenibili per ridurre lo spreco energetico e l’impatto ambientale
